Where you live is a choice. The future you want is a plan. Both belong to you, and to no one else. This sounds simple when written down, yet most of the world is organized as if it were not true, as if the place where a person is born should quietly decide where they may work, where their savings are safe, which schools their children may attend and which doors will stay closed to them.

We reject that arrangement. We believe every person carries the right to decide where they belong, how they build a life, and what they hand to their children. That right precedes any government. No office issues it, no stamp grants it. It comes with being a person. We call it individual sovereignty, and it is the principle this firm was built to defend.

Sovereignty is a word states like to reserve for themselves. States are sovereign over their territory, and we do not dispute that; borders are legitimate, laws are legitimate, and the power to decide who enters is part of what a state is. But you are sovereign over your life, and that sovereignty is just as real. A visa, a residence permit, a passport: these are the instruments where the two sovereignties meet, the places where a person’s plan for her own life and a state’s authority over its territory have to come to terms with each other. Most people arrive at that meeting alone, facing an administration with unlimited time and no urgency at all. We built this firm to make sure that, in that meeting, your side is defended with the same seriousness states defend theirs.

Individual sovereignty is not an abstraction to us, and it is not a slogan. It is exercised, or it is nothing. It becomes real through decisions, and the decisions are concrete: choosing a country, moving capital across a border, signing a lease in a city you have visited twice, enrolling a child in a school where lessons happen in a new language, planning a retirement, a company, a Plan B, around rules a state published and promised to keep.

People who make these decisions are not asking for favors. They have read the law, met its conditions, paid its fees and organized their lives around its terms. When you make decisions based on the rules in force, the rules become a commitment. The law has names for this: legal certainty, legitimate expectations.

We use those words constantly, in filings, in opinions and in court, because they are the legal form of your freedom. A rule that can be rewritten retroactively, reaching decisions people have already made, is a trap dressed as an invitation, and no free life can be built on it.

We are not romantics about the road. Borders are real. Bureaucracy is real. The waiting is real, and anyone who has watched a file sit in a queue for two years knows exactly how real it is. We will never tell you the road is simple, because we know the backlogs, the politics and the fine print from the inside; we work on them every day. But none of it owns your future. Realism about the road and conviction about the destination travel together in this firm, and that combination is how doors actually open. Hope without method achieves nothing, and method without conviction gives up too early. Our clients get both.

There are moments when defending individual sovereignty means more than filing well. When the rules change in the middle of the game, we do not stay quiet. A state that invites people to build a life under its laws is bound by those laws. Applying new rules to old decisions breaks trust, and breach of trust is a legal claim, one we have carried to court and will carry again. We would rather keep a respectful relationship with the administrations we work with every week, and most of the time we do. But when a promise made to a thousand families is withdrawn with a paragraph, our duty is to the families. Holding states to their word is part of what defending individual sovereignty means. Perhaps the largest part.
